The GTI Level 6 Fashion Buying, Styling & Visual Merchandising students organise an annual Fashion Showcase event as part of their QQI course requirements. The Showcase this year was due to exhibit the work of the Fashion and Interior Design students, through an exhibition held in Nuns Island Theatre, with Live windows held in Anthony Ryans, and a Live model walk up Shop Street. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event format had to be cancelled and was replaced by this online version.
The Fashion Showcase has a number of benefits for the students, the organisation and the wider college community. Some of these benefits include; promotion of the fashion courses at GTI, promotion of the skills of the GTI students developed throughout the year, and raising money for a local charity,
This applied learning event is also an opportunity to promote the skills and talents of the GTI students, with the fashion students working collaboratively to plan a range of events and activities. The planning process sees these students working together, developing their team work skills and confidence, along with collaborating with a variety of different GTI departments including Media, Security and Hairdressing & Beauty. It allows the fashion courses to display the creative work of students from the Fashion Design, Interior Design and Fashion Buying, Styling & Visual Merchandising programmes. The event is also promoted online through the GTI website, social media and also features in local newspapers, which helps the students gain a further platform and to have a record of what they achieved during the year.
This is also an opportunity for GTI to showcase their programmes and facilities, and to celebrate the fantastic work of their students and to connect with prospective students, making this a perfect opportunity for GTI to promote Galway, as a competitive and attractive place to study.
The level 6 Fashion students created this website as an alternative to the showcase, to celebrate the fantastic work produced by the students this year. We hope you enjoy!
